IRTRA (Recreational Institute for the Laborers
of the Private Enterprise)
Forty years ago, the Congress of the Republic
of Guatemala, promoted the creation of a law so that private
managers can offer some kind of recreation to its employees.
That is how in July 1962, decree 1528 was validated, containing
the Law of Creation of the Instituto de Recreación de los
Trabajadores de la Empresa Privada, IRTRA. This law establishes
that all managers should contribute a 0.3 percent of all the
wages and ordinary salaries paid to its employees.
From there on, they started building what would
become a net of vacation parks of international category,
developing into the first recreational industry in the country.
The themes that identify the IRTRA parks are cleanness, security,
comfort, hospitality, entertainment and magic. All the parks
have been designed to enjoy in perfect harmony with nature.
In 2001 a total of 6,790 employment tests were
applied, preselecting 892 persons, and finally hiring 206
for the positions of managers and chiefs of the different
IRTRA parks. The 3,000 employees that form this group, are
the main craftsmen of quality, to help maintain its main objective,
which is to give safe recreation to the workers from the private
industry.
