XOCOMIL, a great water party

With the heat we are suffering this summer, one of the best options to spend your vacations is without a doubt a plunge in the Xocomil. This is a water park that has transcended the fun concept and has become a real monument to the cultural and natural riches of Guatemala.

What is more surprising of this fabulous aquatic park of Retalhuleu is its new and creative concept. The park has been in use for five years, but its architectonic design was so modern that it is still in force and attractive.

The center of the park is a huge Mayan pyramid, which serves as restaurant area, and all the water attractions are arranged around it. This big restaurant space was carefully thought, since the rapid foods that are served in here are economical and for the whole family. The park also counts with other snacking spaces were you can enjoy things like hot dogs or ice drinks.

The most amazing thing of this pyramid is the vivid colors that impact since the moment you enter. This forms part of the decoration concept used by the Mayas itself, so, farther from being in a fantasy world, this park constitutes a very similar replica of what a Mayan city would have been in the ancient Goathemala.

The rest of the complex helps support the idea. The plentiful jungle vegetation, among which appear glyphs of ancient cultures, is the perfect scenery for an imaginary adventure. That is why, the best thing you can do is be prepared and willing to spend an unforgettable day fill with great emotions.

Interesting Facts

The Xocomil is located in the kilometer 180.5 taking the pacific coast road that leads to Quetzaltenango. This park is open from Thursdays to Sundays, from 9:00 to 16:00 hours, although on special dates like Easter or holidays the time schedules are extended. The Xocomil forms part of the IRTRA (Recreational Institute for the Private Enterprise Laborers) Parks, so the employees of the private enterprises have free entrance, while the cost for those who are not affiliated is Q75.00 per adult and Q50.00 (quetzales - Guatemalan currency) per child. The park is also attractive because it is located next to the amusement park, Xetulul and the lodging area Hostales de San Martín Tzapotitlán, both also IRTRA installations.

The water park Xocomil is a place where the whole family can enjoy the sun, the water and the summer. There are options for each age and it has an extensive security system.

Optional tour

It depends on your preferences, but the best way to enjoy this park is start on the paradisiacal wave pool. If you are the kind of people that love the ocean but are bothered by the sand and salad water, and you panic with the crazy ocean waves, you have found your ideal place. In Xocomil, the pool has a vast area to enjoy the big waves, where you will always found a space to relax. A soft motion of waves interrupts now and then over this gigantic pool, which is surrounded by a natural bucolic environment. Imagine 1,125,035 gallons of water in an area of 4,680 square meters. This is enough space to dedicate an area to a setting of doll-fountains for children's recreation. A big part of this refreshing world is dedicated to the little ones. Everywhere you see there are games, designed for all ages, with a very familiar and sharing spirit. There are balloon wars, a volley-ball field, water volcanoes and interactive pools for teenagers.

But the most attractive place of the park could be the trip around the mild river Tumala. You bet you will enjoy, relax, and have fun at the same time. You will actually feel this journey through the water as a real, natural and gratifying experience. With only your floating tube you travel around a stream of 540 meters which includes 939,075 gallons of water. During your trip, you will encounter Pre-Hispanic villages, lost cities, waterfalls, and rapids that will make you feel as the main character of an Indiana Jones' adventure.

Simply amazing

Of course, the park big waterslides will take the breath away, even from the most fearless visitors. There are slides for every taste, and they have used the most advanced technology to make you feel the most exciting emotions without suffering any danger.

The Mululjá waterslide is the one dedicated to the whole family. It's wider and less steep than the other ones. It has a capacity for five people and can slide the floating tube with a surprising force; in every curve it almost feels as if the tube would turn around, but at the end it only produces more adrenaline and a big desire to come back again.

In the serpent's nest you will feel a similar sensation on each of its falls, but in here the funniest part is the variety. You can try the free fall, covered, individual waterslide or the couple's slide with its countless somersaults. For the bravest, the two high speed waterslides: the Xibalbá I, straight, fast and imposing; or, Xibalbá II, with a leap at the middle of the fall that you will never forget.

Something that you must not leave aside to enjoy this water park, the lines flow and it counts with an excellent group of lifesavers. What else can you ask to enjoy this summer vacations?
