Duques de Cambridge visitan el Taj Mahal 24 años después de Lady Di

El príncipe Guillermo y su esposa Catalina visitaron el sábado el Taj Mahal, última etapa de su visita de una semana a India y Bután, donde se tomaron una de las fotografías más esperadas por su significado histórico.

Fue frente a este palacio que se tomó una de las fotografías más famosas de la madre de Guillermo, la princesa Diana, fallecida en un accidente automovilístico en 1997.

Las autoridades evacuaron a los turistas del Taj Mahal unos minutos antes de la llegada del duque y la duquesa de Cambridge, que venían de Agra.

La seguridad era máxima en las inmediaciones del monumento, patrimonio mundial de la Unesco.

Bajo un calor abrumador, la pareja fue fotografiaba en el mismo banco en el que posó sola la princesa Diana en 1992.

“¡Es un lugar espléndido!”, príncipe Guillermo.

Catalina llevaba un vestido blanco y azul, que hacía juego con la chaqueta azul de su esposo.

“¡Es un lugar espléndido!”, declaró el príncipe Guillermo a la Prensa después de visitar el mausoleo, célebre por su inmaculado mármol.

“La historia romántica del lugar es increíble y su arquitectura magnífica”, dijo por su parte Catalina.

El mausoleo de mármol blanco y piedras preciosas fue construido entre 1631 y 1648 por el emperador Shah Jahan, en memoria de su esposa favorita, Mumtaz Mahal.

Con la visita al Taj Mahal concluye la visita oficial de una semana a India y Bután de la joven pareja real.
